原 Although I didn't fully appreciate my name until I was in my 20's, I do like my name. It is not childish and it is not reminiscent of a witchy or snobby woman. It is quite entertaining how people can attach such fascinating imagery to a name, though. And utterly disappointing. How would you like it if someone told you that they thought your name was any of these things? It's silly, honestly.

As for the "nicknames" of Kimberly... I personally do not like them for myself. I was called Kim until I graduated high school, but not by my choice. I hated it. To me, it was dull and boring and it didn't "work" with my last name. I started going by Kimberly as soon as I left school. Some people still use Kim and it irritates me. I often ignore them. I think it's impolite, rude, maybe even disrespectful to ignore someone's repeated requests to use a particular name, or title, when addressing them. I always introduce myself as Kimberly. Never have I said, "My name is Kim." So it baffles me why people find it acceptable to shorten my name. If someone introduces themselves to me as say, Francis (m), I'm not going to just call them Frankie. That's rude. I don't call Patricia Pat, or Elizabeth Betty. Why is it so difficult?

Kimberly is a good name. It's not hard to pronounce. It's not ridiculous. It's not "old fashioned." And it certainly isn't plain. I don't necessarily think it's beautiful but it's a good name. Most people remember my name because it's not too terribly common.

Maybe some day I'll be able to add my name to the list of famous Kimberly's, as an artist or an author. ;)
